In my case, the most common reason for that was that the chroot it was instructed to use (via the configuration file in your case because you did not specify the -d parameter) did not exist. If this was the problem, then please file a bug that sbuild should be more explicit about its failures. If this was not the reason, then restart from scratch and try to follow the steps on the sbuild wiki page: https://wiki.debian.org/sbuild These steps have so far always worked for me. Once that is working you could investigate what you did different the time it did not work and then file a bug with that issue. Thanks! cheers, josch
