Of course you do. How will you use tcpdump or tshark without the device names? In most desktop setups a „tcpdump -i eth0” is the right command.
higher-level firewall tools will also hide this. After all, we survived the step from /dev/sda1 to UUID=112233DEADBEEF... as well :-)
Well, but /dev/sda1 is still available. And I prefer /dev/sdaX because I have far less problems with it than with UUID=XXX.
