Please. It is perfectly valid to decide that a locally needed
proprietary software should be installed by way of the distribution's
packaging system. This is called "working with the distribution".
Actually, doing to helps Free Software since the original poster
learns about packaging and might proceed with packaging Free Software
next.

You know, most companies work that way, and thousands of admins get
paid by companies to work with proprietary software to pay their bills
and to have spare time to work on Free software.

It is poor taste to judge somebody on his actions without thinking
about the reasons.
