It's inevitable that systemd will subsume cron, with an incompatible configuration file format. :-)

logrotate uses /etc/cron.{hourly,daily,weekly,yearly}/$jobname format, so systemd-cron can subsume cron's functionality (wrt to logrotate), and they will both use the same lack of a configuration file format (in favor of a directory format) :)
