Because I want logs to be plaintext in my system, not binary.Why? (Seriously.)
Because I count the wide use of transparent plaintext formats everywhere - in logs, configs and shell commands is one of the biggest advantages of Linux/Unix systems.
And to use standard text processing tools, parsers and have a simple way of archiving logs, yeah.
