Yes, that's what Stefano was talking about when he said GNOME Classic through extensions.

In any case, that's not really going to help. GNOME3 is still way to different from GNOME2 for the average joe. People just want to get work done and not play around with their desktop. It has to be at least unobstrusive as possible.
