To be honest, I didn't know about ansel before you ask for comparaison. I search for that application. I saw screenshot and features and it looks good but I didn't find a simple way to install it. Maybe I forgot something.
I'm not sure I'm the right person to do an honest compaison because I'm involved in piwigo development ! But I can say one thing. I think piwigo is simple : simple to install and very intuitive to use. We embrassed KISS concept.

That's a quite interesting package because I intend to implement such
