I should have been more specific here. It's not only the input, it's the output as well. For example, if aptitude is downloading packages in an rxvt window, the percent count stops changing as well, the display is also frozen.
Any (ethernet) network also seems to stop: It no longer answers to pings, and a remote ssh login stops working, too.
Any ideas how I can start debugging this? Regards, Frank
