Err, I've never heared that partial upgrades were supported. AFAIK, if
you decide to stay on etch and want to upgrade libxine1 only, the
procedure is called a 'backport'.

For backports, this indeed shouldn't be done. Instead, I'd suggest that
the backporter would either stay with the package layout from etch or
alternatively add a Depends on libxine1-x in the libxine1 package.

This change has not been uploaded yet, so we still have time to
reconsider. But please make sure that you have read and understood the
problem and the arguments from #439389 first.
