AFAIR, a package

 Package: python-foo
 Provides: python2.3-foo, python2.4-foo
 Depends: python (>= 2.3), python (<< 2.5), python-bar, python2.3-bar, python2.4-bar

should not have to depend on python2.3 and python2.4; instead, applications
that need a specific version of the interpreter should depend on it
themselves.
