Hmmm, when I compare your graph with my graph on
http://unstable.buildd.net/buildd/m68k_stats.png it seem that the drop is
caused by a bunch of packages in Needs-Build queue. 
The total number of installed packages (>5900) is ok for me. 

There are >120 packages in Building which might be caused by a bad
coincidence of one buildd admin going on vacation and network problems of
two of his buildds, so that buildd logs couldn't be handled. 

And you may have noticed that one or the other buildd was shutdown lately,
because there was too less work for them. Tanda for example is usually
powered off, but gets reactivated when there is a peak in the needs-build
queue. Sadly one buildd (akire) is idle because its new ssh pubkey wasn't
added after a disk crash. 

After all, nothing serious to worry about, IMHO.
