IIRC the correct way to do that is Package: oldpkg Depends: newpkg Description: transitional dummy package Package: newpkg Replaces: oldpkg Conflicts: oldpkg Description: ...You can easily build them from any source package you wish. If you also renamed the source package, the new source packages will "take over" the binary packages, and binaryless source packages are AFAIK handled by rene (archive cleanup tool).
