First of all, it was not only too late, the talk would have been pointless anyway, like it is now. It's a small and arbitrary decision the release managers get to make - and they're in a position to know in great detail just how major or minor a release is. I'm sure if they care about the opinions of the peanut gallery, they'll ask. In their shoes, *I* wouldn't care what J. Random Developer thought.
