  (1) KDE is not involved, only aRts.

  (2) The small mountaing / dependency hell you talk about is only Qt;
      the other build-dependencies of aRts are build-dependencies of
      timidity too. But you do build-depend on other GUI toolkits
      already, GTK+ and Tk. (OK, perhaps Qt is a bit more troublesome
      than those.)

  (3) If you drop aRts support, I'd expect for it to be temporary, i.e.,
      reintroduced when libarts1 is libarts1c2.
