Two excrepts from my rejection mail:

"Also, bear in mind that, historically, people who want to become
maintainers generally tone down their behaviour until they actually
are one."

"The basic problem is that the annoyance and disruption Goswin causes
outweigh the benefits of the work he does do."

If the AM doesn't care, James does and public (or private) speech
behaviour is grounds enough for rejection for him.
