Quite possibly because we haven't gotton far enough that it was obvious
that it was breaking, amidst all the rest of the stuff in the init scripts
that probably can't be trusted without inspection? :)

Argh. Must finish moving stuff off of the old box, and reclaim it for BSD
porting (P4 2.6 w/ 160 gigs of disk, vs. a 2x Celeron 400, w/ 20ish, in
the old box...)
