I don't see why that's relevant.
To design software, all you need is a fully functional computer.
To design software and make a profitable business out of that, you need
quite a bit more; but that's not what's being discussed here.
To design Open Source software (which BeOS never was, TTBOMK) and make
that successful, you need a slight bit more than 'just' a computer, too
(although not /that/ much more); but that's not being discussed here
either.
