I hope you don't interpret my CC'ing as a threat. I was seeking
opinion from informed persons as I don't feel aware enough on the issues
related to stable to stable+1 migration.

Anyway, are you sure imp users upgrading to stable+1 will keep their
setup in a usable shape? Today I upgraded some packages from stable to
unstable which forced me to upgrade php4 and imp was no more working. So
I look for a newer imp but none was available. I finally found imp3 but
it was not obvious. 

My understanding is that imp (the version from stable) will not work in
stable+1 if php4 is upgraded (which is likely to happen).

I think some kind of migration path should be added to imp3.
