I'm not sure amd64 is ready; dpkg support hasn't yet been put in a
release though it's now in CVS and build-essential hasn't been updated
with amd64 requirements, and none have been communicated to me.

I outlined what I felt were the necessary steps over a month ago in
Bug#241689, and haven't seen any feedback from that.

I'm not trying to block anything, the pure-amd64 architecture looks
pretty necessary (though nobody's donated me a machine yet *sniff* <g>)
but you can't just hope that all the required tools will get the support
you need at once.

Have you ever, ever felt like this?
Had strange things happen?  Are you going round the twist?
