It is more than just a desire since amd64 only provides a large speed
boost from what I hear (in the range of 30%). Definitely more of a need
of an amd64 only system than a mixed system, since mixed is only needed
for commercial non-free binary-only crap.

There obviously isn't that much of a need for i386 3rd party support if
RedHat and SuSE don't support it.
