I have seen a few, but nothing that cannot be worked around. Like I said, this 
is a hurdle we will get to when we get there. The "USE"-type functionality is 
a proof of concept. It will be another tweak or hack in other places if it 
does not work. I'm looking for constructive criticism/pointers as opposed to 
just criticism. Tell me to bugger off and I'll do so, but don't tell me it 
can't be done - because it can and will be.

No, the package does not need to be modified. We have modified apt-build to do 
this. Take a look at the changes that have happened to apt-build. The CVS is 
available at debtoo's website. This is currently *working* with no other 
changes except to apt-build and a CFLAGS/CXXFLAGS addition to aptbuild.conf.
