 What's in the file?  I'd expect documentation to be plain text or HTML
 files or postscript or something like that, and gzip usually manages
 compression ratios of 2:1 or better on that kind of data, doesn't it?
 That is to say, I'd expect the _installed_ data to be close to 500 kB.

 Did I miss the point?
