and like the gcc 3.2 change over, the upstreams will eventually have to make 
this change as well so Debian can help out and make this task easier for 
them.

However, are these new lexer files backwards compatible?  I would have a hard 
time getting an upstream to accept a patch that would prevent their source 
from building anyhere but the new flex.
