In cron -73, I removed the option to the sendmail command
that requested immediate delivery, as it overrided local
admin options and filtering. However, it does get queued, and
should be delivered "soon" (for most MTAs, immediately). See
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?archive=no&bug=146224 for
full discussion.

But since that hasn't trickled into sarge yet, it's probably not related
to your problem...

Have you done 'mailq' as root to see if there are undelivered
messages? That would help determine whether the problem was the MTA or
cron/run-parts.
