Bug#169328: general: some graphics program is leaving .xvpics turds all over the place

Thanks everybody for your concern.
A netnews search shows that one can turn off generation of these turds
in gimp by clicking deep into its preferences menu.

However this is not mentioned under FILES on the gimp man page.
Please copy this bug to gimp for me.

And copy it to any other package that makes these files and does not
mention it on their man page.

Or doesn't provide a variable to put them somewhere else.

Like say /tmp which might be a nice new default, for debian... but
wait, what if one was looking at dirty pictures, would mode 600 be
good enough security?... oh mkdir /tmp/xvpics-$USER ... so dirty
filenames aren't exposed :-)

BTW I noticed that the enlightenment deb package had the droppings
too, at least as of last year.

and a 'sane' scanner program tgz I downloaded too

Anyway, that they even get into .debs is just the tip of the iceburg.
they should be banished from our daily lives.
