Xalan package very out of date

Hello.  The Xalan package is two version numbers and almost a year out
of date from upstream (Debian has 1.2 in unstable, 1.3 was released in
early January and 1.4 was released mid-September).

I tried to contact the maintainer, Nicolás Lichtmaier <nick@debian.org>,
two weeks ago and one week ago.  No reply.

Does anybody know what the status of Xalan is?  1.2 is buggy -- it's
definitely time to update this package.

I can prepare the updated package, but would it be accepted?
