What's the use of a *standard* protocol or data format if we're going
to take this attitude towards implementations?

If you start to mandate "library X", then the format is irrelevant, and
its openness too.

I think this is even a dangerous attitude. Look at how many times this
has excused needlessly complex protocols and fostered a monoculure of
implementations that could be exploited all at the same time when a hack
for one became known.

In short, I strongly disagree! ;-)
