How about just not using bitkeeper, but submitting plain diff's as
patches; maybe attaching a BitKeeper-protest to all changed files as
well? ;)

To stop working on the kernel certainly isn't what debian should
suggest. Even if BitKeeper is used to maintain the kernel, it itself is
just GPL code that can be worked on without BitKeeper as well.
The patented / binary etc. drivers that were (and maybe still are) in
the kernel are much more a concern of debian.
