RE: Letter 'g' in Library Package Name

Why is it zlib1g not zlibg1?
And what if someone makes a library named, let's say, libelfg? Wouldn't that cause a name conflict?

This dates back to the transition from libc5 to libc6 (glibc). Lib
packages with g in the name denoted that they were compiled against
	glibc rather than libc5.
