KDE does use lt_dlopen() - that is ltdl, AFAIK. Sorces are in 
kdelibs/kdecore/klibloader.cpp

Other KDE packages seem to use this indirectly (e.g. most KDE apps start up 
through kdeinit that is based on KLibLoader).
