That's /dev/gpmdata for Option "Device" in XF86Config*. Also make sure
you've got repeat_type set in /etc/gpm.conf.

Or select both with gpmconfig and dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86.

BTW debian-devel is the wrong mailing list, you want debian-user.
