	Broken? In whose opinion? There is a well defined standard
 that describes exactly how strings are compared, there is dpkg
 --compare-versions for those too lazy to read or apply what they have
 read, it has worked well, and consistently for over half a decade,
 and now we have you to thank who kindly let us know it is all broken?
