If anyone cares enough about this, they are free to do something about it.

They could provide alternatives to packages that contain things that they
find offensive, they could provide a separate archive which doesn't
provide the "offensive" packages, they could provide metapackages that
conflict with all the "offensive" packages...

The list goes on.

As far as reflecting badly on the developers is concerned, I guess that
depends on your viewpoint. Most people^Wdevelopers responding to this so
far have been against any kind of forced censorship. If you or anybody else
feel that this reflects badly on them, I guess they're happy with that.
