ae bug reporters e-mail address

I've been getting a lot of bug reports from a guy who gives his e-mail
address as "der.hans<bugs@LuftHans.com".

Now, I'd like to send this guy an e-mail and ask that he stop doing this,
as it just makes useless work for me and he is never going to get a
"fixed" package, but the "<" in the address causes pine to object about an
unbound address (i.e. no closing ">")

Is this a "valid" address? How do I cope with it? (I guess I could telnet
to the mail server and bypass pine's checking, but that sounds like real
work ;-)

TIA,
