Thanks a lot for your response. Yes, I hadn't considered the order in which 
locate functions examine candidate directories. I vividly remember that piece 
of the code, though. If you'd consider it a bug we could bring that upstream, 
or fix it ourselves and send a patch. I know the KDE code, and I could patch 
just about anything. Though building and testing is the hard part as you know 
:)

I've already got a CVS account, but I'm rather busy with some non-volunteer 
work at the moment.

I'll get back to this thread once I have been able to figure out where the 
breakage I reported arises from and how we can fix it.
