it probably is. but nobody is yet willing to stick their neck out over
this. not surprising, it would really suck to see debian being any kind
of scapegoat/test-case for crypto-law violations.

in the meantime, can we just have the latest mozilla in non-US? perhaps
call it mozilla-ssl (provides, conflicts, and replaces mozilla).

and then build galeon against that.

problem solved.

while this isn't the most aesthetically pleasing solution, it works and
it solves a fairly major problem - mozilla in debian is ancient, and it
makes it difficult to keep the galeon package up to date.

eventually, when the non-US situation is sorted out once and for all,
mozilla with ssl support can move back to main...but we need something
now.

ps: if you haven't tried it yet, install galeon. if you've been waiting
for an alternative to netscape then galeon is it...it is the "netscape
killer" i've been wanting for years.

galeon is mozilla without all the bloated useless crap (mail & news
etc) and with a few nice features (like the option of having new pages
in tabs instead of in new windows). unlike mozilla, it is a viable
alternative to netscape even in it's current beta state...since i
installed galeon a few weeks ago, i have only used netscape once.

it still crashes occasionally (once every few days for me, a little more
often than netscape), but it has this neat feature of automatically
adding all the pages you had open before the crash into the "Temporary
Bookmarks" folder. it also renders pages correctly because it uses
mozilla's rendering engine - if you're sick of being unable to read web
sites because some clueless loser has used FONT tags for 9 point Arial
then galeon is for you.

it's not perfect, but it's the best free browser we've ever had...and
it's improving all the time.
