...and then have twice the maintainence, twice the headache, and also
have to worry about "where is the build log for this package"...

Too much to worry about. I don't see where a 1-3 day down time should
affect the archive all that much. If it does, then the archive process
needs fixing. Remember that non-x86 archs are already at a disadvantage,
so I would hope that you're not implying that there are more being piled
on top of us.
