Re: speed of LDAP?

Brian,

Here's the same commands ran from my workstation against the LDAP
running on another server (! localhost)...

undrgrid@Cypher:~$ time id undrgrid
uid=1000(undrgrid) gid=1000(undrgrid) groups=1000(undrgrid),0(root),4(adm),20(dialout),25(floppy),29(audio),50(staff),1003(dba)

real 0m0.475s
user 0m0.070s
sys 0m0.050s

undrgrid@Cypher:~$ time w
 10:34pm up 8 days, 5:50, 3 users, load average: 0.02, 0.03, 0.00
USER TTY FROM LOGIN@ IDLE JCPU PCPU WHAT
 undrgrid pts/0 :0.0 10:27pm 25.00s 0.66s 0.53s ssh -C toons
 undrgrid pts/1 :0.0 10:33pm 0.00s 0.26s 0.10s w

 real 0m0.114s
 user 0m0.030s
 sys 0m0.080s

The following is from the client:

undrgrid@Cypher:~$ cat /proc/cpuinfo
processor : 0
vendor_id : AuthenticAMD
cpu family : 5

And this is from the LDAP server:

undrgrid@Cypher:~$ ssh -C toons cat /proc/cpuinfo
processor : 0
vendor_id : GenuineIntel
cpu family : 6

Now I also don't know if you are running it and Ben (IIRC) has
also made the suggestion that your run nscd... All my machines have nscd
running and all account authentication is in LDAP as my passwd & shadow
files only contain the defaul standard accounts...

	Respectfully,
	Jeremy T. Bouse
