Yes, i get the same error with 2.4.x and binutils from woody or sid.

After I search several lists an webpages i got the answer:

It is IMHO a kernel source problem which only applies to kernel 2.4.x
and the new binutils package. This has been fixed in kernel 2.4.17-pre8
and above.
