In my case, I didnt even have those sections.  I guess my config file
predates dexconf:
# XF86Config-4 (XFree86 server configuration file) generated by Dexter,
# the Debian X Configuration tool.

If your XF86Config-4 doesnt have a BEGIN DEBCONF section and END DEBCONF
section, it will go and clobber the whole file.  Perhaps I'll file a
wishlist bug to make it the other way around :)
