This is what I read in the doc of the kernel-patch-ext3 debian
package:

3. Requirements

Make sure u have got the following :

[...]

 3. The latest version of util-linux package. ( Version >= 2.11 )
        Download the latest sources from
        http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/utils/util-linux/

Any thought ? I'm not sure I understand what you mean, are you saying that I don't need the util-linux package on my system at all ?
