Not really: the tmpfs seems to use half of the installed mem per default. See 
my box with 512 MB RAM: 

$ df
Filesystem           1k-blocks      Used Available Use% Mounted on
[ ... ]
tmpfs                   256556         0    256556   0% /dev/shm
