problems with gnomeprint???

A problem with printing from GNOME apps has been introduced within the past two-three weeks. (I cannot tell for sure since I rarely print from GNOME apps). The problem specifically happens with gedit ( 0.9.6-3 package from Sid) and cvs-balsa (hand compiled). The error message is as follows:

----alert widget-------------
(APP) cannot find font (X)
Printing is not possible
-----------------------------

---console message------
** CRITICAL **: file gnome-font.c: line 194 (gnome_font_new): assertion `face != NULL' failed.
-----------------------------

The alert widget is complaining that I am missing fonts like Courier and Helvetica. I am sure that my X-server has these fonts but I really do not know enough about how gnome-print works to say that I definitely have the files that it needs, all that I do know is that I have been printing from balsa off/on for the past year and have only recently run into any problem. I have notice if I fool around with the names in the *fontmap files in /etc/gnome/fonts && /usr/share/gnome/fonts that I can get it to stop complaining about Courier (but since I really don't know what I am changing I leave it the way it was). I am guessing that the fonts are there since I haven't uninstalled any font packages but that ?gnome-font-install? isn't picking them up. (since I ran gnome-font-install -rs on know font directories and it only picked up a few of the available fonts). -- D. M. Monarres <ayeq@yahoo.com>

Two wrongs don't make a right, but they make a good excuse.
