It would be nice to have a set of redhat-compat packages (maybe task-
packages) that would allow a Debian system to emulate a particular version of
RedHat (versioned libc depends, etc.)

The only problem is that an interested party would need to take the time to
maintain them, or they'd become useless.  I had considered doing something
like this myself but I don't have the time to put into it.  But if someone
else wants to take the lead on this, I'd definitely be interested in helping.
