You should check this out, but iirc, to use large files under linux, you
need:

Either kernel 2.4 or 2.2 with LFS patches
A recent libc that was compiled with LFS support
Applications compiled with that libc

So, it may not be the applcations but something else. Please verify before
submitting too many reports.
