Go to the header that says (something like) "All updated packages".
Press 'H'.
Find the package you want to install, and mark it for installation.
Go through the install process.
Go back to the selection list, and press 'G' on the "All updated
packages" line. 
Exit.

Perhaps not the most obvious path, but it works. Hmmm, unless you
already have some updated packages held; those holds will be cleared.
