That depends on your university.  I've been on one where the sysadmins
were a real problem, they snooped email and connections to make sure
students weren't "cheating" or "playing games".  I'd better stop here
before I start ranting, I've already deleted a couple of sentences :)

Before using passwords or other credentials from any machine, you
should be sure you know who administrates it and that you trust those
administrators.  It's not too paranoid to want to be sure of those
things.

To get back to the topic, this means that maintainers are not always
able to access their accounts on auric.  Currently, the only developer
tasks I need to do from a secure machine are signing packages,
accessing build machines for various architectures, and running madison.
I would like to see this list reduced by 1/3rd :-)
