Hi Christophe,
If I remember correctly, your problem is actually not a gdm bug, but
the LANG (or LC_ALL) environment variable is set to "C" somewhere,
overriding gdm settings. I was puzzled by the same problem as well.
Good places to hunt for the problem are /etc/environment, or a
generic "grep -r LANG *" in /etc.
