The solution that works on my machine was to add:

set hostname "dwarf"

(which _is_ BTW, exactly what is found in /etc/hosts. Go figure)

Joey, could you at least provide a warning about this upgrade glitch into
the README, or something? This isn't reasonable behavior for an upgrade.
