I think I'll join the nay-sayers. Making it either an option, so that all
binaries installed are UPX-compressed, or some sort like that, would be much
better. I don't want to have to decompress my executables just because I'd
save a little harddrive-space. I don't have loads, but even on my smaller
installations, I wouldn't do it.
How about being able to flag binaries as "UPX'able", and then check via
debconf if UPX-ing of binaries is wished. If it is, then compress them at
installation-time. That way, you get to choose once and for all if you want
compressed binaries on your system. Wouldn't that be better?
